The organization of the Cyprological Congresses began in 1969 by the Society of Cypriot Studies, the oldest active cultural association in Cyprus. The Society of Cypriot Studies was founded in 17 April 1936 in the Pancyprian Gymnasium and had as first president the late Constantinos Spyridakis. Until now three congresses have taken place (I 1969, II 1982, III 1996).

Cyprological Congress will be held in Pancyprian Gymnasium in
Nicosia from 29 April to 3 May
The Congress is divided into three sections: Ancient (Pre-historic – Roman periods), Byzantine – Mediaeval (330 – 1571 A.D.) and Post-Byzantine – Modern (1571 onwards). It covers many scientific fields related with Cyprus, such as Philology, History, Philosophy, Archaeology, History of Art, Methodology and Archival Research, Religion, Theology, Fine Arts, Mass Media, Folklore and Folk Culture, Sociology, Statistics, Anthropology, Pedagogic, Law, Economy, Medicine, Natural Sciences and Athletics. The work of the Scientific Committee and of the IV International Cyprological Congress 2008 to evaluate the participation applications was very complex, since the number of applications exceeded the expected and reached 372. The Scientific Committee has chosen the most representative and original participations which are related to Cyprus and the participants have already been informed about the decision of the Committee and the process of sending their communications. The members of the Scientific Committee are academic staff, researchers and representatives of cultural foundations.
